Shanghai GM sells 288,854 cars H1, 60,356 JunePublished: 01 Jul 2009 22:45:08 PST

Shanghai, July 1 (Gasgoo.com) Shanghai GM said today that it sold 288,843 vehicles in the first half of this year, rising by 16.1% year-on-year and setting the company's half-year sales record, sina.com reported. The first-half sales include 60,356 units sold in June, an all-time high of monthly sales.

The passenger car venture between GM and Shanghai-based SAIC saw the January-June sales of its best-selling Buick brand jumped 34% from a year earlier to 195,989 units.

In June, Shanghai GM's new vehicle models recorded higher sales growth. The Buick New Regal sold 7,693 units and Chevrolet Cruze sold 8,623 units.

GM sales in China rose 38% year-on-year in the firstsix monthsto a record 814,442 units, an all-time first-half record, the company said today.

Jul. 3, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China Shenhua Energy Co Ltd (CSEC)<601088><1088>, which is engaged in the coal mining, power generation and transportation businesses, plans to yield 400 million tons of coal in 2014, accounting for 15% of China's total predicted output for the year, sources reported.




The coal giant aims to produce 190 million tons of coal this year, and has reached agreements with the governments of Shaanxi Province and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to integrate its small-sized collieries.




According to government requirements, China Shenhua Energy, which has more than RMB 70 billion in cash, will initially inject at least RMB 30 billion into the project.




China Shenhua Energy's parent, Shenhua Group is testing a coal liquefaction project in Erdos City, Inner Mongolia. If the project goes well, the group will consider increasing its output of liquid coal products to 5 million tons a year.




Reportedly, Shenhua Group's subsidiary, based in Ningxia Hui Nationality Autonomous Region, will put a polypropylene project costing RMB 17 billion into operation next year. The project is expected to have an output of 520,000 tons of polypropylene, 184,800 tons of gasoline, 41,200 tons of liquid fuel and 13,800 tons of sulfur a year.

TAIPEI, Feb 16 - A banking syndicate was unable togive a new loan to struggling DRAM maker ProMOS, which needs themoney to pay off bonds, due to unspecified new factors, the leadbank in the syndicate said on Monday.

"There are some new factors that have come up," Bank ofTaiwan Chairwoman Susan Chang told reporters following extensivemeetings to try to negotiate a loan for up to T$5 billion ($146million) for ProMOS.

ProMOS has been scrambling for cash to help repay a T$11billion European Convertible Bond (ECB) it issued on Feb. 14,2007. But the DRAM maker said it will allow holders of the bondsto sell back the notes starting Tuesday, as the strugglingcompany scrambles to find money for the potential redemption.

"Every bank is going to have a board meeting today. If theycan't reach a decision today, it might be too late for ProMOS topay back the ECB," Chang said.

Taiwan to cancel minimum group fees for mainland touristsPublished: 31 Mar 2009 20:10:10 PST

Apr. 1, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Taiwan plans to remove restrictions on tour group fees for mainland tourists to bring more flexibility to Taiwan's tourism sector, according to Lai Sher-jen, director-general of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau, sources reported.

Lai explained that the Taiwan Tourism Board will no longer regulate fees for mainland tours. Instead, it will only be responsible for supervision and inspection of tours, ensuring vehicle safety and dealing with tourists' complaints.

Gradual change is expected within six months, said a representative of Taiwan Tourism Bureau.

Currently, mainland tourists are required to join tour groups that cost a minimum of US$80 per day, a fee some say is too high to accommodate a full range of travel options.

Some mainland tourism agency commented that the travel quality in Taiwan would not be lowered by the cancellation of the minimum group fee.

Similarly, an industry insider said that travel agencies should maintain high quality standards and suggested that tourists should not weigh tours by price only.

Mainland tourists have been allowed to visit the island since last July. The Taiwanese tourism industry undoubtedly has reaped much profit from their visits. In fact, during the Chinese New Year holiday, 13,400 mainland tourists spent NT$850 million in the island, according to China Knowledge's earlier report.
